After months of hide-and-seek, it seems like WhatsApp has finally pulled the trigger and enabled video calls on WhatsApp. I know WhatsApp has already made you wait enough, so I’d just straightaway show how to enable video calling on WhatsApp without further ado.
How to Enable Video Calling On WhatsApp
Be warned that doing this will clear out all your existing conversations. Make sure to backup your WhatsApp conversations to Google Drive beforehand.Step 1: Go to System settings –> Apps –> WhatsApp.
Step 1: Go to System settings –> Apps –> WhatsApp.
Click “Storage” and then, “Clear Data”.
Open WhatsApp and continue with the instructions to verify your phone number and get WhatsApp running again.
Swipe over to the Calls tab and then click the “New Call” icon in the upper right action bar. If everything goes well, you should see your contacts with an option to voice call/Video call them on the right. Note that you can only video call if the person on the receiving end also has this feature enabled, else a voice call will be placed through.
Alternate Tips To Enable WhatsApp Video Calling
If you’ve tried the steps above, and still couldn’t get it to work, you may as well try to update WhatsApp and get the latest version before trying again. It’s not guaranteed to enable WhatsApp video calling, but it doesn’t harm nonetheless.
Also, some users over at forums have suggested one more tip for rooted users. Navigate to /data/data/com.whatsapp/shared_prefs/ and open com.whatsapp_preferences.xml .
Add this string in the file:
<boolean name=”video_calling” value=”true”/>
Ever after all the amount of hard work, you cannot seem to get video calling enabled, all you can have is patience. WhatsApp Video calling feature is a staged rollout and may take some time to be enabled for everybody. And now, it has started going live, WhatsApp is going to make it official and enable it for everyone any day now.
PS. Video calling requires both parties to have this feature enabled, so make sure to share this post using the buttons below with your loved ones so they can set it up too!
H/T to Al_Iraqui for the root modification tip!
