The rumor mill is grinding up as Sony’s latest flagship Xperia Z4 is just around the corner. Sony has been touting it’s waterproofing ability for years now. Sony’s quest to make phone’s waterproof may not give a full-proof way of letting you dive with your phone, but you can get a peace of mind when you use your phone in the rain or showers.
Bundled Waterproof Earphones
We believe that it’s time that Sony’s takes it’s waterproofing to a new level – by bundling waterproof earphones to complement it’s next waterproof phone. Yes, that’s a thing and Sony’s prides itself in having a waterproof Walkman in it’s portfolio. Because swimmers deserve to be a part of the music moment, too.
A case study — Why this isn’t happening
Sony has had some exclusive technologies in it’s latest flagships which had the ability to ring the bell. But Sony missed the opportunities. For example, the active noise canceling technology was baked right into the Xperia Z2/Z3 but they needed a compatible earphone which only Sony’s Noise canceling earphones could satisfy. So here’s what Sony did.
They bundled the compatible earphones within the retail box in some countries and left out others. The end-story? Xperia flagship owners can still use the noise-cancellation but they’ll have to purchase the Noise canceling earphones separately, which retail at about $40. A lost opportunity, we say. We don’t know what justifies Sony’s reason for doing so, except for if cost isn’t a barrier.
So, Judging on previous records, it’s doubtful that Sony shall bundle waterproof earphones in it’s retail box. All I can say is — Sony, prove me wrong. After all, divers, who spend much of their day underwater, deserve to watch the next Game of Thrones episode on their next waterproof phone rocking waterproof earphones.
